Innovation finalists for ArenA visitors

Out of more than 180 international submissions, 35 appealing innovations have been selected. These finalists stand a chance to be used by the two million visitors the Johan Cruijff ArenA hosts each year.

In collaboration with Ajax, the KNVB and ID&T, the Johan Cruijff ArenA mounted the Change the Game Challenge to develop new, innovative services for visitors. Companies from all over the world have submitted a variety of products and services designed to enhance the visitor’s experience.

One of the finalists is Snaptivity. When visitors register their seat numbers on this app, it can send emotion-filled action photos of themselves when a goal is scored, for example. With Texel Portal 3D scanner and 3D avatars, visitors can take 3D photos of themselves in front of the panoramic stadium background, for example. Another finalist is Bitz, an easy mobile platform that lets visitors in the stadium order food and drinks for immediate pick up. That saves standing in line. And with the mobile app Game On, spectators in the stadium and at home can view images of an event, including the match statistics, from several angles.

The winning solutions selected from these finalists will be implemented by the ArenA’s field lab for further development with the various ArenA partners in 2019 and 2020.

The ArenA wants visitors to be able to enjoy a football match or event optimally and intensively, even at a distance. Winning solutions could, for example, provide tailor-made information about an event, enhance ticket sales, and ensure trouble-free travel and present special activities before and after a match. Or they could create a virtual space so that visitors can share their experiences during an event. The Dutch national football team plays some of its matches in the ArenA and the KNVB wants to give visitors a top night out, also during EURO 2020. But the KNVB also wants the knowledge gained in the competition to benefit other football clubs in the Netherlands.

Besides service benefits for visitors, the winning enhancements could also offer more efficient and profitable business management, such as optimum seat occupancy, faster assistance for visitors and crowd-management support.

Change the Game is an initiative of the Johan Cruijff ArenA, Media Perspectives, Hogeschool van Amsterdam and TNO that is co-funded by the EU European Fund for Regional Development. This program is powered by the innovation partner KPMG. For more information, please visit
